Do you know Liangshan?

This place is located in a remote area and transportation is not convenient; Although there are buses running between each county, due to poor road conditions, a round trip requires a lot of time. This also means that many people have never left there in their entire lives. However, this does not mean that they have no desire for the outside world.

There is a group of people who, after learning about the situation of the children in Liangshan, decided to lead by example and help them broaden their horizons and acquire knowledge in their own way.

And they themselves are also a group of children.

They are young volunteers from the Mathematics Teaching Support Club of Hong Kong Hongli College, including Zhu Hansheng, Wang Yuhan, Wu Hanyu, Xu Zihan, Zhang Dingcheng, Wei Zhengqian, Xiao Yuhong, Deng Jingxin, etc.

At first, a few classmates started using their mathematical expertise to tutor others two years ago, establishing a math club on campus and effectively improving their math grades and enthusiasm for mathematics. Later, inspired by the support from various parts of the world for underdeveloped areas, they became more determined to bring positive influence to more people through their knowledge and strength. Therefore, a year ago, they launched a teaching support project for students in Liangshan area and added English teaching support, which received strong support from the school. At the same time, the club has also conducted multiple recruitment activities, with members expanding from the initial 7th, 8th, and 9th grades to a total of more than 30 students in the 11th grade. Each member carries out 1-2 teaching support activities per week, lasting for a total of 30 weeks, with a cumulative class time of about 300 hours.

They are full of enthusiasm for the children in Liangshan, and as a "little teacher", they and their peers do everything they can to help the children learn more about mathematics, English, and the outside world.

After interacting with the young teachers in the teaching support team for a year, the children in Liangshan have deeply felt: Lu Tongxue is very satisfied with this tutoring project, which has helped him extend his thinking and broaden his horizons; Api said that the instructor can control the pace according to the needs of the students, taking it slow and being flexible; And A-Zi believes that there is more hope and warmth in this world because there are many people like them.

When using Tencent Meeting for online teaching support, students from the Hongli Academy Mathematics Teaching Support Club noticed that students in Liangshan were using mobile phones for classes - online teaching already had objective difficulties, and a group of students gathered around a small screen, occasionally encountering technical problems, greatly reducing the effectiveness of online teaching support. The students of the Hongli Academy Mathematics Support Teaching Club want to further solve this problem.

It is obviously unrealistic to highly replicate the teaching environment of Hong Kong Hongli College, but the most important computer equipment in teaching is both easy to raise and more suitable for online learning than mobile phones. So, in addition to daily teaching support work, the club actively mobilized surrounding forces and joined forces with Tencent Foundation to raise a batch of second-hand computers; And as a volunteer of Tencent Foundation, donated the batch of computers to students in Liangshan, providing them with more efficient online learning conditions.

On June 12, 2021, students from Class 29 of Grade 12 at Liangshan Ethnic Middle School in Sichuan received 20 second-hand laptops donated by the math teaching club volunteers of Hong Kong Hongli College on behalf of Tencent Foundation. This will help them expand their learning resources through the internet, master basic software skills, engage in online learning more efficiently, and gain a broader understanding of the world.

The Mathematics Teaching Support Club of Hong Kong Hongli College and Sichuan Liangshan Ethnic Middle School have built a bridge and close connection between students from both places through their teaching support, allowing us to see the power of public welfare and take action to warm others.
